GLYOXYLIC

ACID

Product Description

Glyoxylic Acid or Oxoacetic Acid or Glyoxalic acid is the simplest aldehydic acid. It was discovered by Debus in 1856 [1] and described by Perkin in 1868 as monohydrate [2]. Glyoxylic acid is found in plants and is involved in the metabolic cycle of animals in which Isocitrate is converted to Malate. It is a metabolite in mammalian biochemical pathway.

Commercial

Product

In commercial 50% aqueous solutions Glyoxylic Acid is predominantly found in non-volatile hydrated and oligomeric forms.

Glyoxylic Acid offers the smallest possible bifunctional entity to produce aliphatic, aromatic molecules and heterocycles.

It is used for a wide variety of applications : as key intermediate in the pharma or agro industries, flavors and fragrances, dyestuff and fine chemicals, cosmetics as in hair straightening formulations.

Manufacturing Processes

Glyoxylic Acid is manufactured industrially by Nitric Acid oxidation of Glyoxal.and was also manufactured by oxidative cleaveage of maleic acid methyl ester by ozone.

WeylChem Lamotte SAS Glyoxylic Acid is made from Glyoxal. This raw material could be produced from Ethylene or synthetic Ethanol or renewable based Bioethanol
